Krista Hardy was born and raised in Texas and was known as the animal lover of the family. Dr. Hardy attended Texas A&M for her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science and graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. During veterinary school she went on veterinary outreach trips which provided opportunities for learning and expanding veterinary knowledge in Africa and Argentina.
After graduation Krista completed a rotating medical and surgical internship at Coral Springs Animal Hospital, a prestigious general and specialty veterinary hospital in south Florida. She continued working there for 9 years focusing on emergency and critical care and served as a mentor in the hospital's veterinary internship program. During her time at Coral Springs she had the opportunity to work alongside a number of talented veterinary specialists. This led Dr. Hardy to pursue becoming a specialist as well and in 2013 Dr. Hardy became a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners specializing in canine and feline practice. She is also certified in canine rehabilitation through the Canine Rehabilitation Institute. Dr. Hardy is passionate about continuing her knowledge and skill and has also pursued specialty training in advanced abdominal and thoracic ultrasound as well as echocardiology.
Dr. Hardy enjoys the challenge of advanced cases with a strong interest in oncology, cardiology, and internal medicine. Her passion is helping the toughest of cases and giving her patients their quality of life back and giving families more time with their beloved furry family member.
Dr. Krista Hardy and her husband, Dr. Joe Spoo, share a busy family life with their three kids (Grace, William, and Hailey), three dogs (Aggie, Boomer, and ViVi), and a flock of chickens. The family enjoys being outside, gardening, and spending time at the lake.
Dr. Ben Lamp was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD. He always had an interest in science and medicine while growing up and found that he loved working with animals. Ben attended South Dakota State University (Go Jacks) where he received his undergraduate degree in Biology. He continued his education at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with a DVM in 2015. After graduation, Dr. Ben Lamp returned to his home state and took his first job in Vermillion, SD. His experiences included working at multiple veterinary clinics and the Great Plains Zoo. Dr. Lamp and his wife (Dr. Jessica Cozzolino) have two children, Colby and Elianna, and a Rat Terrier named Riesling. Dr. Lamp enjoys spending his free time with family and friends, golfing, and enjoying the summer at his family's lake cabin in Minnesota. His professional interests include surgery, dermatology, and internal medicine. He is always growing his knowledge base and looks forward to partnering with you in caring for your pets.
Dr. Jessica Cozzolino was born and raised in Staten Island, NY. She always had a love for animals and science which led her to her first job in veterinary medicine as a veterinary assistant. After graduating from Wagner College, with a B.S in Biology, Dr. Cozzolino moved to Ames, IA where she earned a DVM from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. It was there that she developed a deep love for the Midwest and even met her husband, Dr. Ben Lamp. Dr. Cozzolino now calls the Midwest home, which she shares with her husband, their two children, Colby and Elianna, and their rat terrier, Riesling. Dr. Cozzolino enjoys spending time with their children, taking Riesling to the park, playing softball, cooking, and facetiming with her family that still reside in New York. Dr. Cozzolino has special interests in dentistry and internal medicine. She also enjoys educating her clients and developing a relationship with them and their pets.
Dr. Lynn LaBrie was born and raised in Sioux Falls. From a young age, she had a passion for dogs and cats and dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. She attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she was a pre-veterinary major and graduated with a degree in Nutrition, Health, and Exercise Science. After undergraduate school, she attended Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with her DVM in 2018. Dr. LaBrie is married to her husband, Aaron. Together they have a daughter named Mila and 2 dogs, a Golden Retriever named Baron and a black Labrador Retriever named Bella. Lynn enjoys spending time with her family at the lake, doing anything outdoors, cooking, and playing with her dogs. Her professional interests include dentistry, internal medicine, and endoscopy.
A native of northwest Iowa, Dr. Spoo knew from an early age that the only career for him was veterinary medicine. He is a 2001 graduate of the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. After spending his first two years in practice in northern Minnesota, he relocated to Sioux Falls and has been practicing in the tri-state area since with licenses in South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota.
Spoo's passion is the canine athlete, and he believes in a cradle-to-grave approach to managing the canine athlete. He is one of only two full-time practicing specialists in the area. Dr Spoo is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation and is one of only a handful of such specialists in private practice in the world, and the only one whose primary focus is hunting dogs. Dr. Spoo has numerous research publications to his credit as he pushes to advance the field of veterinary medicine. In addition, he is an invited speaker to state and national veterinary meetings as an expert on the subjects of canine rehabilitation and sports medicine. His expertise in dealing with athletic canines allows him to provide optimum care to companion pets as well.
In addition to his practice responsibilities, Dr. Spoo has an active consulting business serving sporting dog owners and the sporting dog industry. He also manages an online comprehensive resource for all things gundog related through his website gundogdoc.com. In his free time, you can find him enjoying South Dakota's many outdoor opportunities which include chasing his dogs in the fall or fishing during the rest of the year. Joe also enjoys working out, reading, writing and photography. He and his wife, Dr. Krista Hardy, share their house with three dogs and a flock of chickens. They have three wonderful children: Grace, Will and Hailey.
Dr. Jett Eder is our traveling veterinarian that enjoys being part of the team at Best Care Pet Hospital. He is a 2015 graduate from Kansas State University and brings 8 years of experience in both small and mixed animal practice.
Dr. Eder values thorough, high-quality medicine to optimize the health and well-being of all of his patients. His clinical experience and interests include dermatology, small animal pain management, canine theriogenology and soft tissue surgery. As a traveling veterinarian, he knows that he may be a fresh face to many of his clients and patients-and always strives to make sure you feel heard and trust that your loved one is being treated as one of his own.
In his free-time in Sioux Falls, Dr. Jett enjoys going on walks in McKennan Park with his rescued Boxer- American Bulldog mix, "Jaxson Brown '' and enjoying all the great restaurants and activities that Downtown Sioux Falls has to offer. You may have even seen Dr. Jett and Jaxson featured on KELOLand Living's "Jett the Vet" segments with interviews highlighting various seasonal concerns that Sioux Falls pet owners face!
With a heart for animals, Deborah is happy to be a part of Best Care's team as their Practice Manager! Deborah grew up in Sioux Falls and earned both her undergrad and graduate degrees from South Dakota State University (Go Jacks!). Together, she and her husband have four sons. Their furry kids include a Golden Retriever, a Chihuahua, and two busy kittens. In her spare time Deborah likes to spend time with family and friends, garden, travel, and watch movies.
Jodie began her career in veterinary medicine in Oahu, Hawaii! She earned her AAS in Veterinary Technology from Cedar Valley College in 2019. Jodie enjoys working with anesthetic cases, dentistry, phlebotomy, and providing love and care to our hospitalized patients. Jodie has a passion for teaching and loves to coach and watch her teammates grow. She and her husband share their home with a handsome Australian Shepherd named Koda and a ridiculously adorable mixed dog named Tanker. In her spare time, Jodie enjoys jet skiing, traveling, crafting, and snuggling up near the fireplace.
Laura is originally from Grand Forks, ND. She moved to Sioux Falls to attend school and graduated with her AAS in Veterinary Technology from Globe University in 2012. Laura loves being able to help patients through all walks of life, from pediatric to geriatric care. She balances her time in clinical practice while also instructing students in Southeast Technical College's Veterinary Technician program. She enjoys being able to share her passion for veterinary medicine with her students and help them grow in this rewarding field. Laura shares her home with her husband, young son, and a very active Labrador, Gilly. Laura enjoys being active outdoors and loves going rock climbing and camping.
Annie was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD and knew from a young age veterinary medicine was her calling. She graduated from National American University in 2000 with her AAS in Veterinary Technology. After graduating, she returned to Sioux Falls where she worked in a practice for two years until her daughter was born. Before arriving at Best Care, she spent 3 years working for a veterinary distribution company and 12 years for a veterinarian who retired. Annie has a daughter, 5 dogs and 1 cat. In 2022, Annie was blessed with a granddaughter who is the love of her life. She likes spending time outdoors, motocross races, and football (SKOL!).
Alexis was raised in Sioux Falls. She graduated with her AAS in Veterinary Technology from Broadview university in March of 2017. Alexis loves being able to help patients and has a special interest in internal medicine and oncology. She shares her home with her husband, daughter, dogs, cats, and chickens. Alexis enjoys spending time with her family and anything crafty.
Originally from the Aberdeen, SD region, Sarah was raised on a family farm. She earned her degree as a Veterinary Technician from Eastern Wyoming College and credits her career in veterinary medicine to her interest in working with large animals. Prior to returning to South Dakota, Sarah worked at Kansas State University for several years. She is married with three children and enjoys spending time with family, sewing, and being outdoors
Originally from Iowa with some time spent in California, Sam has enjoyed living in South Dakota for the last 15 years. Following a few other work experiences, Sam decided to pursue a career in the animal science world and obtained her Registered Veterinary Technician degree in 2017. She shares her home with her husband, daughter and two dogs. Outside of the hospital, Sam enjoys anything outdoors and has recently started home brewing craft beer.
Born in Germany and raised in Sioux Falls, Sandy graduated from National University in Rapid City as a Veterinary Technician in 1994. She has 23 years of experience and worked with a veterinarian in Sioux Falls until his retirement prior to joining the Best Care team. A self-proclaimed homebody, Sandy shares her home with her cat, Shelby, and two finches. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys spending time with her cat and family, as well as playing cards and watching movies.
Sidney was born and raised in Brookings, SD. Sidney earned her bachelor's degree in Animal Science from the University of Minnesota in 2019. While in school, she spent a semester in Sydney, Australia where she interned at a Veterinary Hospital and discovered her love for vet med. Sidney especially enjoys making connections with clients and their pets, patient care, and dentistry. In her free time she enjoys cooking, yoga, teaching fitness classes, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Sidney and her husband, Ben, share their home with a mischievous yet adorable rescue boy named Milo.
Born and raised in Monticello, MN, Sophie knew from a very young age that she wanted a career working with animals. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Biology from the College of Saint Benedict in 2016 and fell in love with veterinary medicine while working at a clinic in the Twin Cities after graduation. She shares her home with her husband and her three pets (Mauzie, Archie and Ginny). In her spare time, she enjoys being with friends and family, reading, and being outdoors.
Maddie is originally from Laurel, NE. She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in December of 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Science. She knew from a young age that she wanted to work in the field of veterinary medicine. She chose to pursue a career in the field because she loves to investigate why animals are sick or injured and help them heal. Looking to gain new experiences in the veterinary field and be closer to family, Maddie moved to Sioux Falls and found the Best Care team. Maddie enjoys learning new things, watching Disney movies, reading, going on road trips, spending time with family, and spending relaxing evenings around a firepit. As an avid husky lover, she is looking forward to hopefully adopting one soon!
Originally from Northwest Iowa, Jayci started working in kennels at the age of fourteen and has been working in veterinary medicine ever since. Jayci graduated with her Veterinary Assistant degree from Western Iowa Tech Community College in 2018. Her favorite aspects of working at Best Care are getting to know her clients, taking care of her patients as if they are her own, and forming lasting relationships with her coworkers! In her free time, Jayci and her husband stay busy with their fur babies, Loki and Trice. Being avid Iowa State Cyclone fans, she and her husband enjoy road-tripping to Ames any chance they can to attend athletic events. Jayci enjoys baking, walking with her dogs, and exploring new coffee shops around Sioux Falls. You will oftentimes find Jayci quoting from her favorite show "The Office".
