The medical team here at Best Care Pet Hospital receives regular education, allowing our doctors and staff to stay at the forefront of modern veterinary medicine and practices. Our exceptional knowledge and skills are reflected in our care of pets as well as our clear communication with owners to keep them informed about the health of their companions. Krista Hardy

DVM, DABVP

A Texas native and known animal lover of the family, Dr. Krista Hardy knew from an early age that she wanted to become a veterinarian. Dr. Hardy attended Texas A&M for her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science and graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. During veterinary school, she went on veterinary outreach trips which gave her opportunities for learning and expanding her veterinary knowledge in areas such as Africa and Argentina.

After graduation, Dr. Hardy completed a rotating medical and surgical internship at Coral Springs Animal Hospital, a 30-doctor, over 100-employee facility that sees over 50,000 patients a year. She continued working there for nine years where she worked alongside boarded veterinarians of every specialty. Her primary focus was on emergency and critical care medicine while also taking an active role as a mentor in the hospital’s veterinary internship program. Dr. Hardy completed the Canine Rehabilitation Institute course and gained certification as a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist in 2012 where she also met Dr. Joe Spoo. Dr. Hardy then become a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in 2013 and became a specialist in canine and feline practice. Dr. Hardy completed abdominal ultrasound training for specialists soon after becoming boarded.  In 2018, she successfully completed the year-long echocardiology certification training directly under boarded cardiologists and echocardiology specialists. Her strong interests include internal medicine, emergency/critical care, oncology, and cardiology.

She and her husband, Dr. Joe Spoo, share their home with four dogs (Belle, Lily, Boomer, and Aggie) and one cat (Maiya).  They have two adorable children, Grace and William, who keep them very busy! It can be assured that there is never a dull moment!

Ben Lamp

DVM

Dr. Ben Lamp was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD. He attended South Dakota State University (Go Jacks) where he received his undergraduate degree in Biology. He then continued his education at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with a DVM in 2015. After graduation, he returned to his home state and took his first job in Vermillion, SD. Growing up he always had interest in science and medicine and found that he loved working with animals. His experiences included working at multiple veterinary clinics and the Great Plains Zoo. Dr. Lamp and his wife (Dr. Jessica Cozzolino) share the love of a Rat Terrier named Riesling. He also grew up with two family dogs, Marty and Rossi. Dr. Lamp enjoys spending his free time with family and friends, golfing, and enjoying the summer at his family’s lake cabin in Minnesota. His professional interests include surgery, dermatology, and internal medicine. He is always continuing his knowledge base and looks forward to working with you and your pets.

Jessica Cozzolino

DVM

Dr. Jessica Cozzolino was born and raised in Staten Island, NY. She always had a love for animals and science which led her to her first job as a veterinary assistant. After graduating with her B.S in Biology from Wagner College, Dr. Cozzolino moved to Ames, IA where she earned a DVM from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. It was there that she developed a deep love for the Midwest and even met her husband, Dr. Ben Lamp. She now calls the Midwest home, which she shares with her husband, her son (Colby) and her rat terrier Riesling. Dr. Cozzolino enjoys taking Riesling to the park, playing softball, cooking, spending time with Colby and facetiming with her family in New York! Dr. Cozzolino has a special interest in internal medicine and educating her clients. It is important to her to develop a relationship with you and is very excited to be part of your pet's care.

Lynn LaBrie

DVM

Dr. Lynn LaBrie was born and raised in Sioux Falls. From a young age, she had a passion for dogs and cats and dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. She attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she was a pre-veterinary major and graduated with a degree in Nutrition, Health, and Exercise Science. After undergraduate school, she attended Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with her DVM in 2018. Dr. LaBrie is married to her husband, Aaron. Together they have 2 dogs, a Golden Retriever named Baron, and a black Labrador Retriever named Bella. They enjoy spending time with their dogs, doing anything outdoors, and spending time with their friends and family.

Brent Reimer

DVM, DACVS-SA

Brent Reimer, DVM, DACVS-SA,​ was born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa. He attended the University of Iowa for his undergraduate studies where he double majored in biology and botany. He then received his veterinary degree in 1999 from Iowa State University and subsequently elected to pursue a small animal surgical residency after his graduation. He was accepted into the University of California – Davis small animal surgical program where he received advanced training in orthopedic, neurologic and soft tissue surgical procedures including feline kidney transplantation. Upon completion of the residency, he became board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2004, and returned to perform surgery in his native Midwest. He has a strong clinical interest in canine cruciate ligament disease, arthroscopy, laparoscopy, thoracoscopy and surgical oncology.

Joe Spoo

DVM, DACVSMR

A native of northwest Iowa, Dr. Spoo knew from an early age that the only career for him was veterinary medicine. He is a 2001 graduate of the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. After spending his first two years in practice in northern Minnesota he relocated to Sioux Falls and has been practicing in the tri-state area since with licenses in in South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota.

Spoo's passion is the canine athlete and he believes in a cradle-to-grave approach to managing the canine athlete. He is one of only two full-time practicing specialists in the area. Dr Spoo is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, and is one of only a handful of such specialists in private practice in the world, and the only whose primary focus is hunting dogs. Dr. Spoo has numerous research publications to his credit as he pushes to advance the field of veterinary medicine. In addition, he is an invited speaker to state and national veterinary meetings as an expert on the subjects of canine rehabilitation and sports medicine. His expertise in dealing with athletic canines allows him to provide optimum care to companion pets as well.

In addition to his practice responsibilities he has an active consulting business serving sporting dog owners and the sporting dog industry. He also manages an online comprehensive resource for all things gundog related, as well as hosting the podcast Fueled. In his free time, you can find him enjoying South Dakotas many outdoor opportunities which include chasing his dogs in the fall or fishing during the rest of the year. In addition, he enjoys working out, reading, writing and photography. He and his wife, Dr. Krista Hardy, share their house with five dogs and one cat. They have three wonderful children: Grace, Will and Hailey.

Deborah Leuning

Practice Manager

With a heart for animals, Deborah is happy to be a part of Best Care's team as their Practice Manager! Deborah grew up in Sioux Falls and earned both her undergrad and graduate degrees from South Dakota State University (Go Jacks!). She and her husband returned to Sioux Falls a year ago to be closer to family. Together they have four sons, ranging in ages from 15 to 25. Their furry kids include a Golden Retriever, a Chihuahua, and two Ragdoll cats. In her spare time Deborah likes to spend time with family and friends, travel, hike, and sightsee.

Laura Reimnitz

RVT

Laura is originally from Grand Forks, ND. She moved to Sioux Falls to attend school and graduated with her AAS in Veterinary Technology from Globe University in 2012. Laura loves being able to help patients through all walks of life, from pediatric to geriatric care. She shares her home with her husband, baby boy and a very active Labrador, Gilly. Laura enjoys being active outdoors and loves going rock climbing and camping.

Annie Freeman

RVT

Annie was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD where she knew from a young age veterinary medicine was her calling. She graduated from National American University in 2000 with her AAS in Veterinary Technology. After graduating, she returned to Sioux Falls where she worked in a practice for two years until her daughter was born. Before arriving at Best Care, she spent 3 years working for a veterinary distribution company and 12 years for a veterinarian who retired. Annie has a 20 year old daughter, 5 dogs and 1 cat. In 2022, Annie was blessed with a granddaughter who is the love of her life.She likes spending time outdoors, motocross races, and football (SKOL!).

Alexis Kramer-Hermanson

RVT

Alexis was raised in Sioux Falls. She graduated with her AAS in Veterinary Technology from Broadview university in March of 2017. Alexis loves being able to help patients, whether it’s routine vaccines or more complicated issues. She enjoys helping her patients feel better and aiding in their recovery. She shares her home with her husband, 2 beagles (Copper and Bohdi) and 3 cats (Athena, Sully, and Todd). They all keep her on her toes. Alexis enjoys spending time with her family and anything crafty.

Sarah Mueller

RVT

Originally from the Aberdeen, SD region, Sarah was raised on a family farm. She earned her degree as a Veterinary Technician from Eastern Wyoming College and credits her career in veterinary medicine to her interest in working with large animals. Prior to returning to South Dakota, Sarah worked at Kansas State University for several years. She is married with three children and enjoys spending time with family, sewing, and being outdoors

Sam Sygulla

RVT

Originally from Iowa with some time spent in California, Sam has enjoyed living in South Dakota for the last 15 years. Following a few other work experiences, Sam decided to pursue a career in the animal science world and obtained her Registered Veterinary Technician degree in 2017. She shares her home with her husband, daughter and two dogs. Outside of the hospital, Sam enjoys anything outdoors and has recently started home brewing craft beer.

Morgan Pejsa

RVT

Morgan was born and raised in Brookings, SD and has wanted to join the veterinary field since high school. Following graduation, she ventured to Colorado to obtain her Associates degree in Animal Science and just recently completed her VTNE to become a Registered Veterinary Technician. Morgan currently lives in Sioux Falls with her dog, Evie, and enjoys hiking and puzzling in her spare time. 

Jodie Nelsen

RVT

Jodie earned her degree in Veterinary Technology from Cedar Valley College and began her career in veterinary medicine in Oahu, Hawaii. She loves to assist in surgeries and care for the ill pets at the hospital. Jodie and her husband, who served in the United States Marine Corps, returned to Sioux Falls in the summer of 2018. They share their home with a beautiful Australian Shepherd named Koda and an absolutely adorable mixed dog named Tanker. In her spare time, Jodie enjoys snow and water skiing as well as spending time with friends and family.

Sandy Dubro

Veterinary Assistant

Born in Germany and raised in Sioux Falls, Sandy graduated from National University in Rapid City as a Veterinary Technician in 1994. She has 23 years of experience and worked with a veterinarian in Sioux Falls until his retirement prior to joining the Best Care team. A self-proclaimed homebody, Sandy shares her home with her cat, Shelby, and two finches. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys spending time with her cat and family, as well as playing cards and watching movies.

Sidney Berreth

Veterinary Assistant

Originally from Brookings, SD, Sidney earned her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Minnesota in 2019. While in school, she spent a semester in Sydney, Australia where she interned at a Veterinary Hospital. She recently moved back to the Sioux Falls area where she is working towards her goal of attending vet school and becoming a veterinarian. A dog lover all of her life, she recently adopted a Lab mix named Milo from a local rescue. She enjoys cooking, yoga, traveling, and spending time with family and friends in her free time.

Sophie Sturm

Veterinary Assistant

Born and raised in Monticello, MN, Sophie knew from a very young age that she wanted a career working with animals. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Biology from the College of Saint Benedict in 2016 and fell in love with veterinary medicine while working at a clinic in the Twin Cities after graduation. She shares her home with her two cats, Mauzie and Archie. In her spare time, she enjoys being with friends and family, photography, traveling, and being outdoors.
